Baccarat is a card game played by gamblers around the world. In many ways Baccarat is similar to the game of blackjack, but the chance of winning is more likely. The bets are placed on the table prior to the cards are dealt. This game can be played with little or no skills at all.

Baccarat is a simple game with only three possible results - 'Player', 'Banker' and 'Tie'. The term 'Player' does not refer to the customer and the term 'Banker' does not refer to the bank house. They are just options on which the customer can bet.

Baccarat is an unusual game in that any score of 10 is worth 0 (or 'Baccarat'). The highest score that can be achieved is 9. Two picture cards have a score of 0. A 9 and a 6 are not equal 15 but 5 (minus the first number). An Ace counts as 1 and the rest of the cards retain their face value.

The aim of the game is to total the sum of your cards and obtain a sum that is as close to nine as possible (if the sum of your cards is 10 your total is actually only zero, if the total of your cards is 18 then your sum is 8, you use the number in the ones space and drop the tenth space). The cards valued from Ace to nine is the face value of the card and all face cards and tens are considered to be a baccarat, which actually means zero. Therefore, a player's hand consisting of a three and a ten would have a score of three and a player4s hand with two face cards has zero.

History of Baccarat

The game of Baccarat ("bac-car-ah") has been the entertainment of gamblers since the Middle Ages. In earlier times, the game was played with cards extracted from a Tarot deck.

Baccarat was introduced from Italy to France during the reign of Charles VIII of France who ruled from 1483 to 1498. It became a very popular game amongst French nobility. Although baccarat has always been extremely popular in European and Latin American casinos, baccarat never really caught on as strongly as Blackjack in casinos in the United States.

The version of this game was also introduced to other parts of the country. In the 1500's the game was presented to some French aristocrats who looked for a new and stimulating game. They called the game "Chemin De Fer" which was the French term for rail road. The game was then introduced on the French Riviera in the 1900's. The players than nicknamed the game "Chemmy" or "Shimmy".

The game of Baccarat, which is played in American casinos, is comparable to the game of Chemin de Fur. These two games are very similar and the only difference is that the player banks the game instead of the casino like in the game of Baccarat. The turn of the banker rotates around the table as the game runs. The fun and profitable thing about being the banker is that you take no risk. As a banker you charge each and every players a fee.

There are 3 accepted variants of baccarat: Baccarat Chemin de Fer (railway), Baccarat Banque (or a deux tableau) and Punto Banco (North American baccarat). Punto Banco is played in the United States, Canada and Australia-a variation of baccarat in which the casino always banks the game. Gamblers may bet on either the player or the banker what are the designations for the two hands dealt in each game. The keystone of Punto Banco is to bet on the hand with the highest total, remembering that two face cards equal zero (10 plus 10 equals 20, minus the first digit is zero or baccarat).

Mini baccarat is a fairly popular game because of the lower stakes. It is essentially the same game as Punto Banco, but played on a table similar to the Blackjack table. Baccarat and mini baccarat can be found at many casinos across the United States and Canada, although it is not as popular as some of the other illustrious gambling card games like Texas hold 'em poker and Blackjack. Baccarat is a card game played by gamblers around the world. In many ways Baccarat is similar to the game of blackjack, but the chance of winning is more likely.
